Brief History
Today you can find almost nothing more from around the year 1160 and started 1163 by Eberhard Archbishop of Salzburg consecrated parish church, then still a small hospital church, as a protection for all commercial travelers and pilgrims from your arduous way across the Semmering.
The current building is on three major construction period lead back, namely the Roma niches of the "transitional style" between Romanesque and early Gothic and late.
In the first construction period was the front part of today's cherry-built vessel, which initially only an area north was connected, but by a wall of the church was separated and premises of the hospital housed. Today this area serves as a sacristy.
Around the year 1260 the church was expanded eastward. Because of documents is the assumption that a rapid increase in the population was the reason for the extension. During the construction phase was also the sacristy of the church, and then to today's bell tower built.
1331 to 1786 belonged to the hospital domination Neuberg.
The last addition was at the beginning of the 16th Century implemented, due in turn to a strong increase in the population.
1640 the beautiful Baroque high altar was built.
1786 transferred to the Romanesque statue of the Madonna woman Fountains chapel in the church.
Until the year 1903 now the building of the church was unchanged.
The exterior renovation in 1957 and the interior renovation of 1967 ended the moment the brisk construction activities.
In May 2001, however, again began extensive renovation work inside as well as the external facade. The roof was in the course of this work completely renewed.
